Ambrotose® complex is Mannatech’s proprietary brand name for a family of dietary supplements that support the body’s immune system to help achieve and maintain optimal health and wellness. Among these products are Advanced Ambrotose™, Ambrotose AO® and original Ambrotose® complex.
On August 16, 2005, Mannatech received its first United States patent for beneficial nutritional saccharides related to its Ambrotose® complex technology. Mannatech continues to pursue additional patent filings related to its Ambrotose® complex technology and products.
The U.S. patent on Ambrotose® will join Mannatech’s growing international patent portfolio, which currently includes 18 countries that have issued a patent related to Ambrotose® complex.
In addition to the United States, the company now holds registered patents on its Ambrotose® complex in Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.
“It’s been a lot of work, but things of great value are worth waiting for,” commented Dr. Bill McAnalley, researcher and lead inventor of the Ambrotose® complex. “In granting this patent, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has confirmed that Ambrotose® complex is novel and useful, and Mannatech’s sales growth reflects the product’s value. I’m so grateful for the opportunity God has given me to help make a difference in the lives of so many people.”
Patent Breaches
Mannatech filed the patent-infringement lawsuit in the U.K. against Bion and its principal in February.
In an order filed with the High Court of Justice patents court in London, Bion agreed to stop breaching Mannatech’s U.K. patent on technology related to Ambrotose complex, a unique glyconutritional formulation Mannatech introduced in 1996. Bion also agreed to stop the manufacture, sales and importation of all dietary supplements related to glyconutrition “in any form and by any means.”
“Mannatech will defend its intellectual property and vigorously pursue infringements,” said Bettina Simon, senior vice president and general counsel of Mannatech.
