Glyconutrients

A Blog about Glyconutrients, Mannatch and Ambrotose

When I heard about this I felt a moral obligation to tell as many other about it as possible. It was recently brought to my attention that a product called Ambrotose, produced by Mannatech Inc, has been proven by independent studies to be an effective treatement of Lupus, MS and Chronic Fatigue; among other auto-immune diseases, such as our less common Myasthenia Gravis. Ambrotose is a complex of naturally occuring mono-sacharides and poly-sacarides that have been put together in a caplsule form or in a powder. It is completely non-toxic and has no side effects.

I learned of its ability to work on CFS,Lupus, and MS patients in helping to naturally modulate the immune system, as I listened to the Nugent Report, a radio show based in California. One of the doctors interviewed was a Dr. Darryl See who had done extensive research on Ambrotose compared to drugs and to about 400 other natural compounds. He and all the other doctors were simply amazed at how effective it is. It either got the Chronic Fatigue patient off all other drugs and living a normal life within six moths or it greatly reduced the amount of drugs the patient had to take. Chronic Fatigue is different in symptoms than Myasthenis Gravis, but similar in cause…a immune system that is not correctly modulated. When patients recieved what their bodies needed to get the immune system to function properly they no longer exibited the symptoms to the extreme degree as they did before taking Ambrotose. And in many instances, after being on Ambrotose for a matter of months, they no longer needed drugs at all.  From medhelp.org
I start suspecting that there is something not right about the promotion of a product – such as glyconutrients – when there is hardly any studies published on Medline regarding glyconutrient supplementation by itself and its effects on human health and cancer prevention and treatment, yet the internet abounds with websites promoting the concept or the products. I can only find two published studies on glyconutrients. Both of these studies have been done in vitro – basically a test tube study – as opposed to a live human study, and one study could well be a fraud. Recently I had a friend ask me about glyconutrients and then we had several emails asking about glyconutrients. So, I decided to look into it. I checked the index of Modern Nutrition in Health and Disease, a textbook on nutrition, and could not find the words glyconutrient or glyconutrients in the index. I found the word glycoprotein but no glyconutrient. From Ray Sahelian

I developed blisters from the glyconutrients from Ambrotose.

You’re likely allergic to some foods. That’s what Ambrotose is.

I’ve had MS for the past seventeen years. I’ve been on ambertose for the past year and I’m now living a almost “normal” life. My last MRI in Feb 07 showed no new MS activity. I believe in the product. I’ve been off all traditional MS drugs for over a year.

Doing research since I have been diagnosed with “lupus Like” symtoms. Tired of all the poison in medication and am looking for alternate healing without side effects.

Only found “two published studies”! You couldn’t have looked very hard and in the right places. This is Nobel Prize winning techology, I challenge you to find a higher form of scientific validation than this!

I just started looking into the effects of ambertose.I being a 30 year old quadrapalegic am very interested in the possibilities of it promoting stem cell growth,if that is even a fact or not

I don’t know much about the scientific end of this stuff, but I do KNOW that it extend the life of my husband by about 6 months. He had suffered with lung cancer for 3 years. My only wish was that we had found this stuff sooner. When his body would abosorb the needed nutrients from a feeding tube I started feeding him this in his tube and he turned around and recovered until the tumor burst. I know you say but he still died. He did. But not in 3 days like the dr. predicted but in 6 months and he was awake and sitting at the kitchen table until 20 min before he died. He was able to die the way he wanted. Co-herrent and not comotose.

Just wanted to point out that the article you were referring to is incorrect. The Nobel Prize winners are NOT affiliated with Mannatech. They have taken action against Mannatech for associating there research with Mannatech products.

I am concerned that my mother is taking Mannatech despite the lack of evidence for it. She had breast cancer about 6 years ago, and was fully recoved BEFORE taking mannatech. But now she’s stopped taking her prescribed treatment to prevent the recurrence of cancer and is spending A LOT of money each month on the products. She has a blind faith in the pyramid-selling company – with a dubious background – but I remain skeptical. Funny thing is, she gets sick more often than I do. And I’m not taking any “glyconutrients.”

One retired doctor has said that the fibres from which the products are derived cannot actually be broken down in the digestive system or absorbed by the body.

I don’t mean to offend anyone who does have a success story. It is great that Mannatech may have prolonged the lives of your love ones or made your own health conditions more manageable.
I just think there is a risk in believing that this a miracle cure to all diseases. Just like pharmaceutical companies, at the end of the day Mannatech is still out to make a profit.

(By the way, I’m a freelance journo and hope to continue investigating the claims both for and against mannatech in the future. If you have any info, please let me know. I guess you could just paste on this blog.)
    Cheers.

  9. Gayle says:

Of course you get sick less than your Mother who has had cancer and other health issues (hello) how much older is she than you?
I would not care if the mannatech products were shipped in from the moon.
I spent a good many years flat of my back at least3 days out of7.
I did not want to go on ,it was just to much for me .
If I had been on the product 10 years ago I would not have missed so much of my life.
Now just maybe I have a little time to be as good as I can be as long as God wants me on this earth.
I feel I have reached a 50% improved state of health,my check up today confirmed it and my doctor was very pleased.

I have been suffering from a skin rash over my entire body from my neck to my feet for the past 6 months. I have been to doctors and dermatologists – no one can help. The rash is itchy and my body has rejected benedryl and other antihistamine prescriptions for itchy rash such as Atarax, Doxepin, Zyrtec, etc. I have been on 3 doses of prednisone and received a cortizone shot. I have been on oral antibiotics, nothing is working. I’m 44 years old and have had mild, atopic dermatitis since I was 27. Does anyone think that Ambrotose will help?

  11. Dorothy says:

Just learning about this product. It was actually recommended to me today, by my veterinarian for my cat who has a tumor. (This doctor has NO financial stake in this – I bought a tub from a local seller.) The vet had success with a dog whose tumor disappeared after using this. This vet is not one who would normally recommend anything alternative – he is still very skeptical but he admits that the dog had a miraculous recovery. So, since we have nothing to lose, we decided to try it.
I will post back as time goes on and let you know if it works.

Hi David – my husband is 10 months into being quadraplegic and has been taking Ambrotose for 9 months. He’s a C4 incomplete and we are continuing with the complex because he has been free of infections. He also takes a multivit and Omega 3/6/9 – the hospital food is rubbish. I also take him in lots of things like Oatcakes and smoothies. (He’s still in the spinal unit) So maybe it’s a combination of all those things but he’s doing well and still making progress. Haven’t noticed any untoward side effects.

  13. Gary says:

Okay class. Just do this. Draw a circle and assume that everything that you already know is within that circle. Now put a dot outside the circle. Is it possible that there is a supplement represented by that dot that helps the body heal itself? Of course, it is possible, because the dot represents the unknown. My personal experience with the product includes much less joint pain and discomfort and the fact that in the last 4 years I have had to get my glasses changed because my eyesight was getting better each time. Soon the dot will be brought into each and everyone’s circle as common knowledge. Remember that the computer was once a dot outside everyone’s circle.

My husband has been diagnosed with ALS. He now has no use of his hands, arms or legs. I am wondering if anyone has had any luck using Ambrotose with ALS…I have read some success stories with MS. Any helpful suggestions would be grately appreciated.

My sister was diagnosed with liver, kidney and bone cancer 3 years ago. The Mayo clinic in Rochester gave her 2 months to live, they said there was no hope. She lived for 3 years (!) while taking the Mannatech products, they definitely extended her life and we had much more time with her. Thank god she didn’t listen to the “doctors” at Mayo! These products may not be the cure, but they did help her.

  17. Claire Harris says:

I have been using Ambrotose powder and Plus capsules since July 2007, for Fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. In December 2007 I increased the dose from 4 scoops x2 daily, to 6 scoops x2 daily, because there was no improvement in my condition.
Since I have been on Ambrotose, my cholesterol levels have remained high, my eye pressures have increased so that I am now considered to have Glaucoma and my blood sugars have increased and I am now glucose intolerant. Has anyone else noticed an increase in blood sugar levels? I don’t know if this is related to Ambrotose consumption? My Fibromyalgia and arthritis symptoms remain unchanged, so it has been a very expensive experiment!

  18. Heather from Hawaii says:

I started taking Amrotose about 2 weeks before my ACL reconstruction surgery. Six days after surgery I saw my physical therapist for the first time. He was shocked at how well I was doing. I can walk and fire all my muscles freely. He told me that I must use my crunches even though I don’t feel like I need them. I am still in a bit of pain, but they did just thread my hamstring though my knee. The therapist said that most people don’t get where I am in recovery for 3-4 weeks or longer. I have been taking 2 scoops every 4 hours during the day. I am 37 and for the most part a healthy female. I have to wait to see what my surgeon says.
I hope he will let me out of my strait leg brace soon. I miss sitting in the front seat of the car.

  19. Fran says:

Our 6-yr old dog has lymphona and is on chemotherapy. We have been giving her 4 scoops twice a day for a month. Lumps have disappeared, she’s jumping out of her skin with health and energy. Anybody else have experience with their dogs and glyconutrients? We’d love to hear….are we giving her too much? Could we get same effect from recommended dosage (Mannatech)?

My daughter, who is 29 years old was diagnosed with crohn’s 4 years
ago. Right know she is in the hospital. I’m wondering if Ambrotose
will help her. I do not want to give anything that will make it worse.
She will be starting humara shot tomorrow.

  21. BJ says:

I am a nurse for a ventilator dependant quadraplegic. In the summer of 2004 she was given a “strong” antibiotic to clear up a MERSA infection.
The dose began to shut down her kidneys, causing a build up of baclofen in her system. She was in ICU because of the seizures, side effect of too much baclofen, when she sufferred a stroke that took away her speech and sight. The doc told her parents to prepare to lose her. They started her on the Ambrotose through her feeding tube. 1 tablespoon three times a day. With in a month she had regained her sight, and speech. within three months she was back in the 7th grade. they have reduced the doseage some but I am convinced that if you give the body a better communication via these “sugars” EVERY body will benefit. Why take meds if the body doesn’t even know what to do with them? Why all the vitamins, essential oils and minerals if the Immune system can’t figure out who is friend and who is foe? I have seen improvement in Crohn’s, Cancer, Arthritis, Asthma, IBS, and just general health. It is worth the cost. How do we value health anyway?

  22. abby says:

deb….i have all the symptoms of Crohn\’s disease and I have been taking Mannatech. It has helped me and I think there is a good possibility it could help your daughter.

  23. Wendy from London says:

For Claire Harris – I noticed you said scoops – bigggggg concern!! Note as a lupus sufferer with M.E. (chronic Fatigue Syndrome) and disabled for over 10 years. I now go to university full-time. Tested for lupus in 2007 after using ambrotose, catalyst (excellent for my kidney deterioration, tried acupuncture but limited benefit), advanced plus tablets and cut out white foods (gluten, yeast, lactose & unhealthy white sugars) – lupus no longer present – unheard of, but true.

Throw out the scoop – people like us that have serious illnessess need to get real and deal in desert spoonfulls, especially where the bones are affected, these recommendations on the pack are for legal reasons.

As all stem cells leave from the long bones, it needs serious rebuilding, if you’ve reached to a bone disease. Reduce your stress, get rid of toxic personalities or anyone negative – stress free zone, the number one killer!! only eat ripe fruits that taste sweet and vine ripened foods. No one can heal where stress, poor diet & environment are running interference…

Go for the desertspoons of ambotose, with one further addition… Soil based oranisms in the form of a probiotic or the companies own form, others fall short and die in the system within days… while I treated a myself it was the essential ingredient to begin healing.. puzzled up to that point as to why for months things were not progressing… once in the body, the speed of the recovery was incredible.

Anyone reading this remember the older and/or more life threatening/debilitating the illness the more you need!

The high cholesterol will drop,I l lost weight instead of constantly increasing, everything will improve. Also note the body needs to clean itself out, this healing response is essential, rest while it takes place it can be a real buzz kill, but once its over, your good to go.

    Be blessed, be well.

Remember the more you use the quicker you heal.

My dad just passed away last week after a 13 year battle with prostate cancer that went into his bone. 1 1/2 months ago he was in pain that was like the pain he had over a year ago and requried a rod be placed in his left upper leg and connected to his hip. We were introduced to Ambotrose and within 3 days dad was pain free. His last month and half was wonderful, he felt great NO PAIN and was leaving his walker. At one point I cought him dancing with his walker. His life was so much better he stopped taking all his pain meds (on his own and without my knowlage) he went into withdrawl and lost his battle with the cancer. I wish we would of found manatech years ago. No it didn’t heal him but the doctors couldn’t explain why his limpth nodes has decreased in size to almost normal. The doctors told me I was playing God when I wanted a feeding tube put in so I could give it to him. My grandson has muscular dystorphy and we are giving it to him and have seen improvements. Everyone I have introduced manatech to has seen a positive effect from improved eyesite to reduction in allergys. What ever you do, don’t try to stop your medications on your own, it could kill you

I have started Ambrotose yesterday(5.06.2009) as suggested by my brother. An MRI indicated that I need a spine operation because of degeneration(L3,4) and sequestration of the disc space at L5.The cervical spine is also affected. My hips are also in bad condition.I also suffer from diabetes, asthma and fatigue.I hope that this product improves my condition as I refused to have the fusion of the vertebra.I am 48 years old and still live a full life in beautiful South Africa although in pain.I don’t know after how long any change will occur but will report back in a few weeks. The package suggests 1 scoop twice daily but I was told to have 8 and decided to go for 4.Does anyone know the correct dose?

  26. Sam Waters says:

Please consider my side of the story. I was in the Mannatech system for about a year. I was too busy in my job, plus looking after the needs of my aging parents, to have time to build a business. So, I let it go.

Please. Let’s be reasonable. Controversial therapies will thrive because the accepted therapies are too expensive, out-of-reach or else non-existent. Controversial therapies will get traction when their use is correlated to an abatement of symptoms … just like any other commonly accepted medicine.

I personally HATE Mannatech, and as a former member, found their high-priced money-grabbing philosophy to be morally repugnent … But in my case, the stuff worked! I had mercury poisoning from Silver Dental fillings. The Ambrotose got me on my feet until a kindly dentist (Using Huggins protocol) revised my fillings.

I gave free tubs of the stuff to my pastor’s wife, who had fibromyalgia. The ambrotose, taken at recommended dosage, worked great for her. Experiements with lower dosages failed. After a year of this, she migrated to a better, stress-free life, coupled with some dietary changes, and all is well without Ambrotose.

Each case is different. Even the same disease, with the same name, will have something unique about it within each patient. MY DISDAIN FOR MANNATECH NOTWITHSTANDING it does look like Ambrotose should be considred for any condition having even a slight auto-immune component to it. I think a reasonable time frame for improvement would be a few months, but each of us has to decide how long we will give a chance to something new. Whether it be a dietary change, a medicine, a new friendship or a new job.

I have heard about cheaper alternatives to Ambrotose, and I urge others to look into them.

    Regards

Try any product with Arabinogalactan in it. There are numerous ones on the market. I’m taking one called Ara-Larix by Nature’s Plus. They also sell a combination with Olive Leaf. It depends n what you are taking it for. There are others. Some products combine Arabinogalactan with other things like mushrooms (like Gaia Whole Body Defense),

I was on Ambrotose for about a year. I felt wonderful. I had a kidney transplant 21 years ago. when I was taking ambrotose my levels got better, my cholesterol went down. all my blood work got better and better. I had increased energy and appeitite. I never felt better. I also was taking their plus product for hormones. I got off of it only because of the price. 3 years later I find myself getting back on it, because my hormones are messed up from all the drugs I am on, I am tired all the time, prementalpausal, now I have IBS. I am tired of feeling like crap. I know ambrotose works and I am going back to it. I got off of it because of the price but with all the other drugs I am on and feeling the way I do it is worth it. My advise is try it for 6 months. You do go through detox the first week to a month but after that you feel great

  28. Joani says:

I was diagnosed with Grave’s (hyperthyroidism)6 years ago, but found out a few weeks ago that in fact I had Autoimmune Thyroid disorder that manifests as hashigraves (hypo AND hyperthyroidism). Does anybody know whether ambrotose helps for autoimmune thyroid disorders as I am not keep on radiation that will leave me without a thyroid taking hormones for the rest of my life.

  29. Chris Pritchett says:

I am a final year medcal student who is doing some research into ambrotose, having taken it for 5 years and not really felt any benefits despite having a chronic kidney condition and taking a tablespoon a day for a year – and yes, i did cost me a fortune.

I think this stuff can work for some people – hence the testimonies. But I must concur with a concern for its inherant lack of MAINSTREAM published papers. There are only 4 papers that come up on searching ‘glyconutrients’ on medline and this to me is strange for such an ‘evidence based product’. Although research does exist for the prinicples of how glyconutrition SHOULD work, there is very little to show this actually translates in practice. Individual case studies are great but be warned – I see many, many people get better who shouldn’t who have never even heard of ambrotose.

I agree with the comment above – try it in reasonable quantities for minimum 6 months and if it works, superb! Just make sure you can afford it first!

  30. Heather says:

I have a couple questions about Mannatech Plus. My mom has had CFS my entire life and swears by Mannatech. She said that it has turned her life around.

She also said that she didn’t have a blemish on her face until she reached adulthood and the only thing that balanced her hormones and cleared up her skin was a 1yr commitment to Mannatech Plus. She hasn’t had a blemish since.

So I’ve decided to buy the product since I have adult acne as well. I’m also on birth control, which as helped with the acne a little, but not completely.

Does anyone know if Mannatech will mess with the birth control that I’m taking? I know that St. John’s Wort is strongly advised against when taking birth control because it somehow neutralizes the effects of birth control that keep you from getting pregnant. Does anyone know if Mannatech is the same since it helps in balancing hormones?

  31. karlton says:

my mother has started on ambrotose to improve healh, but suspects she is allergic to one of the two types of gum in it (developed a bad rash)has anyone else heard of something similar ?

    • Dr. Ragni E Funner says:

The rash is most likely due to the toxins being released through your skin. Ambrotose makes the cells communicate much faster and more correctly, and therefore the cells are able to cleanse themselves of toxins and waste products. These toxins and products can give a rash and can also itch. It will normally cease in the course of 3-5 weeks.

  32. lisa milton says:

The main ingredient in ambratose is Arabinogalactan derived from the larch tree (larix decidua). It is not exclusive to ambratose – it’s widely available in other products on the market which are much cheaper. This is the scam! Mannatech claims to have exclusive rights to this ingredient which is a lie! I’m taking it for an auto-immune condition of thyroid and so far it is working and I have been able to get off medication.

  33. lisa milton says:

IMO the word “glyconutrients” is a mainstream buzz word used as a scheme to market these products and make people believe it’s OK to fork out big bucks for something they can only get from one source. When in fact they are widely available. The Native Americans used the larch tree as food and medicine long before we ever arrived.

  34. lisa says:

I think the rash is a sign that the body is purging itself. After taking a Larix product, I had blisters break out on my fingers. I also got sciatica (nerve pain along back and leg). Sometimes I get this when my nervous system is overstimulated. I think it’s the Larix working – my metabolism is changing. I’m willing to give it some time to see if it passes.

    • Lebo says:

I thought the nerve pains are very strange. Now that I’m not the only one experiencing them, I’m a bit relieved. I’ll give them another month or so then may start worrying if they persist.

My sister’s ovarian cancer cells not only disappeared completely after taking Ambrotose, her blood work up completely baffled Dr.’s. Our family has been taking Mannatech products for over 15 years. A friend of my parents had a cancerous growth on her ear for years, had it removed a couple of times but it kept coming back. She used the product and it has been gone for years now….remember, you aren’t going to see documented reports that Ambrotose or any other glyconutrients are effective because pharmaceutical companies aren’t benefiting which means Dr.’s aren’t making money and neither are the stock holders of all the drugs out there…not to say that modern medicine isn’t beneficial, but why do we have to decide on one or the other? Free will…I don’t sell it as I don’t really agree with their marketing or high expense, but I will always use it. Honestly, if you really read up on it, it makes sense.

I am doing some research into this product as it was recently mentioned to be by a medical practitioner. It has been very helpful to read the feedback. Just a note: I find it uncommonly strange to find comments from people who have a strong moral stand againt the company’s marketing strategy and yet, find their products to be above reproach. Rather reminds me of the hotels who leave their own positive reveiws on travel websites!
